Baby's death prompts police probe

Detectives are investigating the death of a four-day-old baby boy on Merseyside who suffered cardiac arrest.

Police were called to Ormskirk Hospital in the early hours where the baby, from Southport, was pronounced dead.

Merseyside Police said it was being treated as an "unexplained death and have carried out initial investigations as per normal protocols".

A post-mortem examination will be carried out on Thursday to establish a cause of death.
