Woman escapes street rape attack

A woman managed to fight off a man who tried to rape her as she unloaded her car in Liverpool.

The victim was taking items out of her car boot in Blackthorne Road, near to Walton Hall Park, at lunchtime on Wednesday when she was targeted.

A man put his hand over her mouth and tried to pull her away. The woman fell on the ground and was assaulted before fighting the man off.

The woman, 37, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Det Insp Mark Guinness, of Merseyside police, said: "This was a dreadful attack on a woman going about her daily business.

"She has been left shocked and distressed by what happened to her and we are doing everything we can to find this man."

The attacker ran away in the direction of Walton Road.

He is described as white, in his early to mid 40s, about 6ft 2in tall, slim with shaven mousey hair and facial stubble.
