Bike pair shot from passing car

Two men on scrambler bikes have been shot at from a passing car in Merseyside, police said.

Officers were called to Liverpool Road at its junction with Twigg Lane in Huyton at 1730 BST on Saturday following reports of gun shots.

Shots were fired from a Black Audi A3 car towards the motorcyclists before all three vehicles headed towards Princes Drive. More shots were fired.

No one was injured and bullet casings were found at the scenes.

The car was later found abandoned in a farmer's field on Angers Lane in Melling.

Liverpool Road was closed for a time while the areas were forensically examined and house-to-house enquiries took place.

Merseyside Police said there was no known motive and Supt Mike Edgley appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

"Liverpool Road is a main route in and out of the city centre and at that time of day it is very busy; someone must have seen something.

"It is fortunate that no one was injured. Those involved in the incident have shown disregard to other motorists and pedestrians."
