Children's charity boss in court

A children's charity director in Liverpool has been charged with possessing child pornography.

Matthew Byrne also faces charges of false imprisonment, sexual assault and two counts of assault.

The head of the Young Persons' Advisory Service (YPAS) appeared before Wirral Magistrates on Monday.

He will next appear before Liverpool Crown Court on 16 July. Police are continuing to search his house in Tollemache Street, Wallasey.

He was initially arrested following an investigation by officers from British Transport Police, but it was handed over to Merseyside Police.

YPAS works with children and young adults aged between 10 and 25 years of age.
