Schoolgirl injured in dog attack

A 12-year-old girl is in hospital after she was mauled by a Staffordshire bull-terrier type dog in Liverpool.

The girl was walking with a friend on Egerton Street in Toxteth on Sunday evening when she was attacked.

She was treated in hospital for chest, arm and leg injuries which are not described as life-threatening.

Police said the dog was being walked by a woman, who made no attempt to stop the attack and walked off with the dog towards Falkner Street afterwards.

The woman is described as white and aged about 45 to 50 with shoulder length blonde hair.

She was wearing jeans and a grey/green jacket at the time.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
