Doctor killed in jet boat crash

A doctor who emigrated from the UK has been killed in a jet boat accident at a beauty spot in New Zealand, the Foreign Office has said.

Paul Woods, 29, died when his boat flipped in a fast-flowing river in Wanaka, on the country's South Island.

Two other people were seriously injured in the crash on Friday near Mount Aspiring National Park.

Dr Woods was reported to have emigrated from Maghull, Merseyside, three years ago.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "There was an accident in the Wanaka region. We are in contact with the next of kin and are offering consular assistance."
