The phone messages will remind revellers about excessive drinking
|
Anti-binge drinking messages are to be sent to revellers heading into Liverpool city centre via Bluetooth technology to their mobile phones.
Hard-hitting adverts are also being projected on to buildings near pubs and clubs in a bid by the city's council to encourage people to drink sensibly.
The Know Your Limits initiative will take place in the city on Saturday 27 December and Monday 29 December.
The special phone and film messages will be sent out at about 2130 GMT.
The campaign is being organised by Liverpool City Council's newly formed Alcohol and Tobacco Unit which is part of the trading standard's team.
Councillor Berni Turner said: "I'm delighted that we are one of the first authorities to use this modern technology to promote alcohol awareness and by providing people with practical advice and information we can hopefully reduce alcohol misuse and any alcohol-related accidents."
The city council is leading the City Safe Partnership in conjunction with Merseyside Police, Liverpool Primary Care Trust (PCT) , Citysafe and the Home Office.
This campaign works in conjunction with the PCT's "Pssst be alcohol aware" scheme launched earlier this month which reminds people of the dangers of drinking to excess during the festive season.
