Police are renewing their appeal for information on the murder of man who was attacked in Liverpool city centre a year ago.

Anthony Clarke, 45, known as AJ, had been out with friends celebrating his wife's birthday when he was attacked as he left a pub.

Police said two men approached Mr Clarke on Paradise Street, and one them punched him. He suffered head injuries.

Mr Clarke's wife Janet described him as a "devoted father and grandfather".

Mr Clarke, from Anfield, became separated from his wife and friends when they left The Grapes pub and he stayed to chat to other people.

'Devastated'

Merseyside Police said they want to build a picture of Mr Clarke's movements from 0333 GMT on Sunday 25 November 2007.

Mr Clarke was found near McDonalds and police want to speak to people who tried to use a nearby cash machine, which was broken.

"It's still difficult trying to come to terms with AJ's death," Mrs Clarke said.

"He was a devoted father and grandfather and everyone is devastated by his loss.

"I would urge anyone who may have information which could help the police to find those who did this to my husband to come forward and let them know so that justice can be done."
