Woman found dead after house fire

A woman has died in a fire at a house in Wirral.

Two children in the property on the Woodchurch estate in Birkenhead managed to escape the blaze on Saturday morning and raise the alarm.

Firefighters discovered the body of a woman aged in her 40s in a first-floor bedroom at Orretts Meadow. The two children have been taken to hospital.

A fire investigation team is at the house to try to discover the cause of the blaze.
