Drugs found in shipping container

Cannabis plants found by police
Nearly 1,000 cannabis plants were found in shipping containers

Nearly 1,000 cannabis plants with a potential street value of £400,000 have been discovered by police in Wirral.

Officers discovered a large commercial cannabis cultivation site at an industrial unit in Tarran Way in Moreton on Wednesday.

Insp Brian Griffiths, of Merseyside Police, said the site was a "very sophisticated operation" with automated water, light and ventilation systems.

The plants were found in four large shipping containers and a nursery area.

Insp Griffiths said the drug production farm would have cost a great deal to set up.

Adding: "We rely heavily on the information provided to us by members of the local community and I would like to reassure people who live and work in our community that we act on all information received."
