Five people arrested in connection with the murder of a 16-year-old cadet in Liverpool have been released on bail.

Joseph Lappin was stabbed in the heart after being chased by a gang of up to 15 youths in Everton on 20 October.

A 16-year-old boy from Kirkdale, who was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Joseph and the attempted murder of his friend, has now been released.

Three men and a boy arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder have also been bailed.

Merseyside Police said all five had been bailed pending further police investigation.

Joseph, from Old Swan, Liverpool, was with two friends when he was attacked after his first visit to Shrewsbury House Youth Club.

A 17-year-old was stabbed twice during the incident and police said he was lucky to be alive.

A third boy sustained minor injuries.

Joseph was an army cadet and planned to join the Army, his parents have said.
