Further arrest over cadet killing

Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murdering a teenage Army cadet in Liverpool.

Joseph Lappin, 16, was stabbed in the heart after being chased by a gang of up to 15 youths in Everton.

Merseyside Police said a boy from Kirkdale, was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Joseph and the attempted murder of his friend.

Three men and a boy arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder are still in custody.

The men, aged 21, 20 and 18, and a 16-year-old boy are all from the Kirkdale area.

Army career

Joseph, from the Old Swan area of the city, was with two friends when he was attacked after his first visit to Shrewsbury House Youth Club last week.

A 17-year-old was stabbed twice during the incident and police said he was lucky to be alive.

The other boy sustained minor injuries.

Joseph was an army cadet and planned to join the Army, his parents have said.
