Fire breaks out at recycling site

Up to 60 firefighters were called to tackle a blaze at a recycling centre on Merseyside.

Thirteen fire engines were called to the Orchid Environmental site in Huyton, Knowsley, early on Friday.

Work was going on at the recycling centre at the time but staff were safely led from the building.

Group manager for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, Alan Harris, said the fire was quickly brought under control and its cause was being investigated.

"The crews did an excellent job in tackling the fire.

"We got water on it really quickly and now someone is investigating the cause of the fire and we should find out where it started," he added.
