The biggest trophies in European football have gone on display at Liverpool's World Museum.

The Uefa European Championship, won by Spain, Manchester United's Champions League trophy and the Uefa Cup form part of the glittering display.

The Uefa exhibition - called Only a Game? - also includes memorabilia from the National Football Museum.

Artefacts including shirts and medals from some of the biggest players in football history also feature.

There is no city in Europe where football means more than it does to the people of Liverpool
Steven Gerrard
Michel Platini, President of Uefa, said: "I am delighted that Uefa is bringing this exciting exhibition to Liverpool during its Capital of Culture celebrations, a city that loves its football and plays such a big role in Europe's fascination with the game."

The exhibition also includes items from the Everton Collection, a huge number of items chronicling the history of Everton FC, and items from the Liverpool FC Museum.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard said: "There is no city in Europe where football means more than it does to the people of Liverpool.

"So I think it is great that we are having a European football exhibition as part of Liverpool 08."

The exhibition, which opened on Saturday, runs until March 2009.
