Samurai sword robbers target Spar

Two men, one armed with a samurai sword, have robbed a convenience store in Runcorn, Cheshire.

The pair entered the Spar store in Hillcrest, Halton Brook, as the shop was closing on Tuesday night.

They threatened a shop worker with the sword, stole a quantity of cash and then fled towards Halton Brook estate.

Cheshire Police are appealing for anyone with information about the robbery, which took place at about 2030 BST, to contact them.

Local accents

According to police the 38-year-old male shop assistant was unhurt in the incident but was left "shocked and scared" by the ordeal.

The offender with the sword is described as white, about 5ft 11ins (1.8m) tall, early to mid 30s and stocky.

He was wearing a black hooded top and had concealed his face with a blue scarf.

The second man is described as being in his late teens or very early 20s and about 5ft 7ins (1.7m) tall.

He was wearing dark clothes and had a black scarf wrapped around his face.

Both men had local accents.
