Mathew Street Festival concludes

The popular Mathew Street Festival has drawn to a close in Liverpool.

Thousands of people flocked to the city to watch the two-day extravaganza, which is held in the city every summer.

More than 90 singers, tribute bands and unsigned local groups featured in the musical line-up for the event, which was celebrating its 16th anniversary.

Bands from as far away as Brazil, the US, Argentina and Turkey performed on six outdoor stages and 30 indoor venues across Liverpool on Sunday and Monday.

The outdoor stage performances ended at 1800 BST but the final bands playing at the indoor venues did not finish their sets until the early hours.

Merseyside Police said it was pleased with the way the vast majority of people who attended the festival behaved, allowing it to be an enjoyable two days for local, national and international visitors.

Eighteen people were arrested over the course of the festival.

Thirteen were arrested for drink and disorder-related offences, one for possession with intent to supply, two for security staff working without licenses, one for a recall to prison and one for being wanted on a warrant.
