Waterfront revamp plans on show

Proposals for boutique hotel and sailing club in West Kirby
It is hoped the development will attract more tourists to the area

Plans for the controversial redevelopment of West Kirby's waterfront have gone on display.

The multi-million pound scheme would include a £10m boutique hotel and sailing school.

But the project has come under fire from some traders and residents who say it will ruin the town's atmosphere.

The company behind the scheme said there would be a full public consultation before a planning application was submitted.

Developers claim it will help make West Kirby a "destination resort". It would be sited at the head of the Marine Lake at the junction with Dee Lane.

The old sailing school is to be replaced under the plans and a hotel complete with restaurant, bar, spa and conference facilities built.

There are also plans for public toilets, shops, a cafe and a tourist information point for local attraction Hilbre Island.

The development would also create 50 jobs for the area.
