Ban on student alcohol promotions

The University of Liverpool students' union has called time on cheap alcohol promotions.

The Guild of Students has said it will no longer promote offers for heavily discounted drinks amid concerns for the health of young binge drinkers.

Darran Martin, President of the Guild, said it was time all venues selling alcohol showed more responsibility towards their customers.

He said steps had been taken to create a "safer environment" for students.

"Yes there has been a lack of responsibility, but it is something that we have noticed and we have this year taken active steps to move away from," he said.

"People can now come here and have a good time in a safe environment."
