An adventure playground dedicated to murdered Liverpool schoolboy Rhys Jones has been opened by his parents.

The 11-year-old was shot dead by a youth as he walked home from football practice in Croxteth last month.

Melanie and Stephen Jones joined Rhys's friends and his former teachers for the ceremony at his old school, Broad Square Primary.

Rhys's parents unveiled a plaque with the words: "In Loving Memory of Rhys Jones, 1995 - 2007."

Year 6 pupils, many of whom were close friends with Rhys, were the first to use the playground.

A tree was planted at the school in his memory last month.

Merseyside Police have arrested 17 people as part of the investigation into Rhys's murder.

Twelve people have been bailed and a further five released without charge.

No-one has yet been charged.
