Liverpool's project was one of 74 to receive funding
A scheme to encourage families in Merseyside to recycle has been given a major funding boost.

Liverpool City Council has been awarded a £300,000 grant from the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) to help improve recycling rates.

The money will be used to fund roadshows and door-to-door campaigns to encourage people to play their part in making Liverpool a "greener" city.

Liverpool was one of 74 projects across England to receive funding.

Liverpool city council's executive member for the environment, Berni Turner, said: "It's essential we work closely with residents to make sure they know how easy and beneficial it is to get into the recycling habit.

"Although we're already doing a huge amount to make people aware of the city council's green services, the funding we've been given from WRAP will enable us to increase our awareness campaign and increase our recycling rate."
