Two bull terrier-type dogs knifed
Police are investigating after two bull terrier-type dogs were attacked and killed with what is thought to have been a kitchen knife in Merseyside.

Officers were called to a house in Kirkby on Saturday, following reports that a person had been attacked.

When police arrived at the property in Georgia Avenue they found one dog already dead. The other had to be put down due to its injuries.

Police are now investigating whether to prosecute a man for animal cruelty.

The owners of the dogs may also face charges for not keeping their animals under proper control, said a police spokesman.

Detectives said that no-one had yet come forward to say they were the victim of the dog attack that was reported.

Various witnesses are now being questioned.

The incident comes less than a month after five-year-old Ellie Lawrenson was mauled to death by a pit bull terrier-type dog in St Helens, Merseyside.
