Shower slashing 'like Hitchcock'
A woman was slashed with a knife and broken bottle while showering, in a scene "like something from a Hitchcock movie", Liverpool Crown Court heard.

Paige Afellat, 18, was washing her hair when two women allegedly drew the shower curtain back and attacked her.

Carrie McCarten, 20, from Anfield, has admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Her friend, Carly Barrett, also 20 and from Anfield, denied the same charge and her trial began on Wednesday.

The court heard Ms Allefat was attacked on 10 June last year, at about 2130 GMT, while at her Anfield home alone.

Eric Lamb, prosecuting, said: "Her family were all out, but on going out they had checked all the windows and doors were secure, and no doubt Paige would have felt secure in the shower in her own home."

"However, in circumstances which you may think are like something from a Hitchcock movie, in burst Carrie McCarten and attacked Paige Afellat with a broken bottle, having drawn the shower curtain back in order to carry out the attack."

He alleged Carly Barrett joined in the attack as Ms Allefat tried to get out of the shower.

"While McCarten was still attacking Page with a bottle from the rear, this defendant was also carrying out stabbing and slashing at Paige," he said.

The court heard that Ms Allefat used to be friends with McCarten but they had fallen out over a boyfriend.

She said she had never met Ms Barrett.

The case was adjourned until Thursday.
