Ian Botham
Ian Botham was awarded an honorary doctorate with letters
Cricketing legend Ian Botham has been presented with an honorary doctorate of letters from the University of Chester.

The ex-England cricketer, who was born in Heswall, Merseyside, was awarded the doctorate for his charity work.

He has raised more than 8.5m for children with leukaemia, much of it through his long-distance walks.

University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Wheeler, said: "He is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through determination and perseverance."

The ceremony was held at Chester Cathedral.
