Woman dies and man hurt in fire

A woman has died and a man was seriously injured in a fire at a house in Greater Manchester.

Police and fire crews were called to Essex Road in Brinnington in the early hours of Thursday.

The woman, thought to be in her late 30s, was taken to hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival.

A man was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport suffering from serious injuries. An investigation into the fire's cause is under way.
