Police have charged 16 people with public order offences after the funeral of a murdered teenager.

The arrests were made near the Broadway club in the Norris Green area of Liverpool, following the funeral wake for Liam Smith.

The 19-year-old was shot outside HMP Altcourse in Higher Lane, Fazakerley, as he left after visiting a friend on 23 August.

Those charged over the public order are due before Liverpool magistrates.

A police spokeswoman said that the arrests followed reports of late-night disorder outside the club.

Mr Smith, who was known to police, collapsed outside the jail following the shooting. Passers-by and prison staff ran to his aid, but he later died.

Two people have been arrested by officers in connection with the killing, and were later released on bail.

The funeral service took place at St Teresa of the Child RC Church, Norris Green.
