Fire prompts Adelphi evacuation
The Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool
The Adelphi was made famous by BBC's Hotel series
About 100 guests had to leave Liverpool's famous Adelphi hotel after a fire broke out.

The blaze began in a basement room containing Christmas stock, which caused smoke to spread through six floors of the building.

Four fire engines went to the city centre hotel - made famous in the BBC docu-soap Hotel - early on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Fire Service said about 100 guests had to be evacuated from the hotel.

They were allowed back into the building at about 0230 BST.

The cause of the fire is not known.
