Driver dies in motorway pile-up
Crash scene on the M62
The crash closed the westbound carriageway at junction six
A driver who had to be cut free from his car in a nine-vehicle pile-up on the M62 has died, said police.

The accident closed the motorway westbound for six hours between junction six - the exit for Huyton and the M57 - and Liverpool.

It is believed a car became squashed between a lorry and a truck, trapping the driver inside.

Police said the dead man, aged 25, from outside the Merseyside area, had suffered serious head injuries.

Firefighters had to cut him free before doctors could treat him but he died later in hospital.

Three others were treated for less serious injuries.

Merseyside Police have appealed for witnesses.
