A man has been remanded in custody in connection with a crash in which an 18-year-old student was killed.

Police said Eluned Cleverley was hit by a parked car that had allegedly been shunted into her by a van on Seabank Road in Wallasey, Wirral.

Lucas Sonta, 24, of Trafalgar Road, Wallasey, was charged with aggravated vehicle taking and using a motor vehicle without insurance.

Wirral magistrates remanded him to Liverpool Crown Court on 24 August.

Police believe Eluned died instantly from her injuries in the accident on Saturday.

A 20-year-old man who was walking with her at the time suffered minor injuries and is recovering in hospital.
