The Liverpool team are in third position overall
Liverpool's entry into the Clipper Round The World Yacht Race has won the latest leg of the competition a day before the race ends at Albert Dock.

Ten yachts, each bearing the name of sponsoring cities, set sail from Liverpool last September.

The fleet is due to arrive back in the city for the finale on Saturday.

The Liverpool 08 team won race 12, from Jersey to Holyhead, in the penultimate section of the 05-06 contest. Western Australia finished in second place.

Durban's team finished third, followed by Singapore.

Teams from Glasgow, Jersey, New York, Cardiff, Victoria and Qingdao are also taking part.

The yachts are competing in the round the world race across 35,000 miles (56,300km) of sea, visiting a total of 12 ports before returning to Liverpool.

Liverpool 08's win on Friday has taken it to within one point of New York which is in third place on the overall leader board.

Western Australia leads the overall contest, with Durban in second place.
