Rooney's England caps were among the items stolen
England and Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is said to be "devastated" after football memorabilia was stolen from his parents' home.

Thieves forced an upstairs rear window at the house in West Derby, Liverpool, on Saturday evening.

A spokesman for Rooney said: "Wayne is devastated. He is more upset for his parents than himself, as they supported him immensely when he was a youngster."

Experts say many of the items will be unsaleable as they are so distinctive.

Merseyside Police have revealed the full haul stolen from the home of his parents, Jeanette and Wayne snr, who were away on holiday.

His younger brothers are thought to have returned home to find it ransacked.

The stolen items included: a Trinidad and Tobago football shirt from this year's World Cup, a Serbia and Montenegro shirt and four England caps from under-15 and under-17 fixtures as well as matches against Australia and Turkey.

There was also a Manchester United shirt from the 2005 FA Cup final, two footballs signed by England and Everton players and a trophy from the Everton v Aston Villa FA Youth Cup final of 2002.

'Sentimental value'

And the thieves also took Rooney's 2002 BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year trophy.

"Like any person, the thought of strangers breaking into and searching his family's home is upsetting," said Rooney's spokesman.

"These items they stole had huge sentimental value to Wayne and to his parents that money cannot begin to replace.

"He just hopes that somebody has the decency to return these objects to his mum and dad."
