About half of Sayer's business went to Kwik Save
Talks are taking place to limit the impact of the loss of 180 jobs at a Liverpool bakery.

Unions from Sayer's say they will be involved in damage limitation at the meeting with management on Tuesday.

Owned by Lyndale Retail Bakeries, the bakery in Lorenzo Drive, Norris Green, runs 123 shops and supplies national chains and wholesalers.

Half of the output from the business went to Kwik Save, which announced it was closing at the end of February.

'Reduce impact'

John Higgins, the Liverpool District Secretary for the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union, said: "The decision on what jobs will stay or go has already been made.

"Over the next 90 days we'll investigate avenues where we can make the terms and conditions better for the members who stay on site and maybe expand the number of jobs on that site."

Managing director Michael Quinlan pledged the company would do all it could to reduce the impact on the workforce.

One hundred and forty full-time and 40 part-time jobs are affected.

The company has started a 90-day consultation period with staff.
