A man accused of murdering a mother-of-three is also charged with an arson attack at a Merseyside mosque days after the bomb attacks on London.
Stephen Wynne, 27, of Elmswood Road, Birkenhead, is charged with the murder of Chantel Taylor, also 27, who went missing from her home last March.
Liverpool Crown Court heard Mr Wynne was also accused of setting alight Shah Jalal mosque in Birkenhead on 9 July.
He was remanded in custody to appear before the same court on 3 November.
Mr Wynne, who appeared in court via video link from Manchester Prison, is expected to enter his pleas to both charges on this date.
Ms Taylor's disappearance prompted several searches and her picture was displayed on phone boxes across Merseyside and on the side of milk cartons across the country.
Detectives dredged the River Mersey and searched the old Cammell Laird shipyard, in Birkenhead, but her body has not been found.
