'Racer' jailed after fatal crash
Iain Littler - (c) Chester Chronicle
The judge said Iain Littler had "shown little remorse"
A man who fled the scene of a car crash which left a pregnant mother and her baby son with serious injuries has been jailed for 21 months.

Iain Littler, 26, of Ludlow Road, Blacon, Chester, had raced his friend through the city in October 2004, Caernarfon Crown Court heard.

His friend, Paul Hughes, 28, hit an oncoming car, trapping Caroline Grant in the wreckage of her fiesta.

Littler was convicted by a jury of dangerous driving.

Brain haemorrhage

The judge Merfyn Hughes, who also banned him from driving for four years, said it was an "appalling episode of dangerous driving" and he had "shown little remorse".

Miss Grant, who was 16 weeks pregnant, lost her unborn child after the crash while her two-year-old son suffered a brain haemorrhage and was on a life support machine for two months.

He has since recovered but doctors say he may have suffered some long term brain damage.

Littler's friend, Mr Hughes, has since killed himself, the court heard.
