Man arrested after 'arson' attack

A 32-year-old man has been arrested over a suspected arson attack which left another man critically ill.

Firefighters had to rescue the injured man, also 32, who was trapped upstairs in the burning house on Wilburn Street, Walton, Liverpool, on Tuesday evening.

The man, from Old Swan, was taken first to Aintree Hospital and transferred to the burns unit at Whiston Hospital.

Firefighters, who arrived within four minutes of the emergency call, found the property well alight.

The arrested man, from Walton, is suspected of arson with intent to endanger life.
