Fan struck by football star's car
Joey Barton
The crash involving Mr Barton was "accidental", police said
A Liverpool fan suffered a broken leg when he was hit by a car driven by Manchester City footballer Joey Barton.

The 35-year-old fan was celebrating his team's Champions League semi-final win over Chelsea when he was struck by the car in the early hours of Wednesday.

It happened outside a busy pub in the city centre. The fan was taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said the incident appeared to have been a "complete accident".

She added: "A surge of people were crossing the road at once.

"After they had crossed, the driver began to move slowly forward and clipped another person who was trying to cross the road."
