Man dies after footballer crash

Steve Finnan is not suspected of any offence, police say
An 81-year-old man who was knocked down by a car driven by Liverpool footballer Steve Finnan has died.

He was crossing West Derby Road, Tuebrook, near the club's training ground, when he was struck by the player's Range Rover on 27 January.

The 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international stopped at the scene. Police say investigations are ongoing.

The man died on Thursday at Royal Liverpool Hospital where he had been treated for head and leg injuries.
