Calls to protect marine wildlife
Oystercatcher
Campaigners say wind farms and fishing boats threaten the birds
Wildlife campaigners in the North West will be calling for better protection of the region's sea birds this weekend.

Conservationists from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) will be in Merseyside and Lancashire as part of its "Safeguard Our Sea" campaign.

They say transport, fishing boats and wind farms are threatening the survival of many species.

The "Big Sea Watch" events will be in Morecambe, Lytham St Anne's, Southport and Parkgate on Saturday and Sunday.

The organisation is calling on the government to bring in legislation to protect marine life.

The Sefton coast and Ribble estuary are home to many species of estuary birds, including curlews, oystercatchers, knots and dunlins.
