Tournament day remembers Anthony
Anthony Walker
Anthony had trials for the Liverpool and England basketball teams
A basketball tournament in memory of murdered teenager Anthony Walker has been staged.

Anthony, 18, was found with an axe in his head in Huyton, Merseyside, on 29 July and died later. A man and a youth have been charged with his murder.

Teams including Liverpool, Sefton, Ormskirk, Ellesmere Port and St Helens, contested the Anthony Walker Trophy.

Organisers hope Sunday's tournament, at Greenbank Sports Academy, near Sefton Park, will become an annual event.

Other activities

Basketball was Anthony's main sport. He had trials for the Liverpool and England basketball teams.

City Hoops, Anthony's team, were also invited to play. His friends and brother were taking part in the tournament.

The final was preceded by a two-minute silence of remembrance.

A host of other activities took place during the day, including a graffiti art opportunity where players and spectators were invited to contribute to the celebration of Anthony's life.

A book of condolence was available for signing on the day.

Anthony's family had given their consent for the sporting tribute to take place.
