Man denies Rooney mobile charge
Roy Goldie
Roy Goldie has been given unconditional bail
A man has appeared in court accused of throwing a mobile phone at Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

Roy Goldie, 35, denied hurling the phone at 19-year-old striker Rooney during a Premiership match against Liverpool in January.

The phone was allegedly thrown at Rooney as he stood in front of the Kop after scoring the match-winning goal.

Mr Goldie, of Coulport Close, Dovecot, Merseyside, pleaded not guilty before Liverpool magistrates on Wednesday.

He faces a charge of throwing a mobile telephone at or towards a playing area, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse.

The defendant was given unconditional bail and the case was adjourned for a pre-trial review at Liverpool's new Criminal Justice Centre on 27 September.
