Plans have been revealed for a new stadium for St Helens Rugby League club
as part of a £100m leisure complex.
Saints believe they need a ground to match their status
Club officials say the development will match the club's status of one of the world's leading clubs.
The proposed public-private partnership involves the local council, a major supermarket developer and a Las Vegas chain of casinos.
This is the latest of several attempts by the club to get a new stadium as previous plans have fallen through.
Club chief executive Sean McGuire said: "This is the kind of regeneration we need to be able to compete with the big city clubs like Bradford and Leeds."
Previous plans have not had council support but this one has its full backing.
St Helens Council leader Marie Rimmer said: "It is definitely going to happen, we're going all out for this.
"We could have had a stadium before now but it would not have been worthy of the best rugby league and the best supporters in the country."
One of the partners is Las Vegas based Harrah's Entertainment - one of the world's highest profile casino operators.
And the project is seen as a major development for the whole town.
