Everton 'failing fans' ambitions'
Ex-Everton striker Wayne Rooney
Rooney's transfer to Manchester United will be discussed
Fans at Everton Football Club have called an extraordinary general meeting to demand steps to be taken in turning the club's fortunes around.

The members of Everton Shareholders Association want an account of the club's finances in recent years.

The shareholders will call for the club board to stand aside if issues are not addressed to members' "satisfaction".

They believe Goodison Park no longer lives up to its world-class reputation or the "ambitions of its supporters".

Among issues to be discussed it is expected that the recent £27m transfer of Wayne Rooney will be raised.

In their motion to the club board the shareholders "express their deep concern at the current state of affairs in the company".

They believe the board has failed to "realise the resources" of the club.

Despite the level of the support, they say the club is no longer competing at the highest levels or "matching the achievements of previous generations."
