Five held over £35m drugs haul
Five people have been arrested after cannabis worth an estimated £35m was seized at Liverpool Docks.

A customs search of two freight containers at Liverpool Seaforth Docks revealed 7.2 tonnes of the drug.

One person from Liverpool, one from Walsall, West Midlands, and three from Staffordshire were arrested by Merseyside Police.

Jeremy Lee, customs head of detection North West said the seizure would hit the pockets of whoever brought it in.

'Successful operation'

Mr Lee said in line with the government's drugs strategy customs concentrates on "drugs that cause the most harm, particularly heroin and cocaine."

But he said: "We enforce all prohibitions at the frontier however."

DCI Mark Matthews, head of Merseyside Police Middle Market Drugs Unit said it was "another successful operation" against drugs trafficking.
