Builders trapped after wall collapses
Two builders were injured on Tuesday when a 30ft section of wall collapsed on them in Liverpool city centre.

The men were working on a partially demolished block of buildings in Richmond Street when the three-storeys tall wall fell at about 1350 BST.

One of the men, aged 40, was trapped under the rubble and had to be rescued by fire crews.

He is believed to have suffered leg and arm injuries.

'Snatch rescue'

His 52-year-old colleague, who was hit by bricks but managed to free himself, suffered head and back injuries.

Alex McDougal, of Merseyside Fire Service, said the fire crews had carried out a "snatch rescue" - where the 40-year-old man was released as quickly as possible - because of fears that the building would collapse.

Both the injured men were taken by paramedics to the Royal Liverpool Hospital for treatment.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive has begun.

Richmond Street was closed so the building could be made safe.
