A British man has been charged with attempted manslaughter after a fight in Corfu which left another Briton in hospital, the Foreign Office has said.
Patrick Samuel Quinn, 22, from Wallasey, Merseyside, was remanded in custody by the public prosecutor until 28 September.
Christopher Dryburgh, 25, from Glasgow, is "serious" in hospital after the incident near the resort of Kavos on Thursday.
Mr Quinn works as a club bouncer on the Greek holiday island, his family said.
'Defending girl'
His grandmother, Jean Quinn, also from Wallasey, said she had been told the fight broke out when
her grandson tried to defend a girl whose handbag was being stolen.
"His brother is going out in the morning to Greece to see what's happening,"
she said.
Mr Quinn had not been in serious trouble before, and was not a vindictive person,
Mrs Quinn said.
"Just childish pranks, nothing serious.
"He's a big bloke, but he's a very soft person really. He's not a vindictive
child," she added.
She said he had been working in Corfu for the summer season.
"He just takes off every year to work in bars and then comes home in
November. He does bouncer jobs and serves behind the bar," she said.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office said Mr Quinn had engaged legal representation.
