Ethiopian, Haile Gebrselassie, 37, has won the Great Manchester run for the third time in 28 mins two secs.

Thousands of spectators lined the route which led out of the city centre to Manchester United's Old Trafford ground and back to the finish on Deansgate.

The event, involving 36,000 runners, has grown into one of the biggest 10k events in the world after its launch in 2003 with 10,000 participants.

It is immediately followed by the Great City Games on Deansgate.

Athletes from all over the world took part in the games held on a specially laid track through Manchester city centre.
