Police officer in court over fatal Stalybridge crash

A Greater Manchester Police officer has appeared in court charged in connection with the death of a motorcyclist who crashed during a pursuit.

Pc Ian Bruce, 33, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court to deny a charge of dangerous driving.

He was involved in a pursuit of Alan Stuart Long in Stalybridge in August 2008 in which Mr Long crashed. He died later in hospital.

Mr Bruce was released on bail until his trial on 7 June.

He was charged following an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

A second allegation of dangerous driving was discharged by the Recorder of Liverpool, Henry Globe QC.

Mr Long was riding a motorbike and failed to stop for police officers shortly before he was in a collision with a Volkswagen Polo.
