Men killed as truck touches cable

Two men have died after their tipper truck touched an overhead power cable in Cheshire.

Police believe the pair were offloading road surfacing material in Booth Lane, Middlewich, when the raised tipper part of the lorry hit electrical lines.

The men, aged in their 40s and local to the Middlewich area, were at the rear of the vehicle when the accident happened on Friday.

The driver of the truck, a 54-year-old man from Derbyshire, was unhurt.

The men's next of kin have been informed and post-mortem examinations are being carried out.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is investigating.

A HSE spokesman said: "Two inspectors have attended the scene with Cheshire Police to make initial inquiries and the investigation is ongoing."
