The Annis family were raising money for the Fusiliers Aid Society

Hundreds of people have taken part in a charity walk in memory of a British soldier who was killed in Afghanistan. Fusilier Simon Annis, 22, from Salford, died in August while trying to rescue his section commander after an explosion in Helmand province. He was laid to rest after a military funeral in Irlam in September. The 15 mile sponsored walk between Cadishead, Salford, and Warrington - where Fusilier Annis went to school - took place on Saturday. His family organised the walk to raise money for the Fusiliers Aid Society. Speaking during the event, Peter Annis said the community had rallied around since his son's death. He told the BBC: "It's just brought it home that there is a war going on and these people here are there to support those lads over there, and obviously the lads that have come back."
