Tribute to mobility scooter rider

Peter Carroll
Mr Carroll suffered a fatal head injury in the crash

The long-lost sister of a pensioner who was killed when his mobility scooter was struck by a car in Wigan has paid tribute to him.

Peter Carroll, 76, suffered a head injury and multiple leg fractures during the crash on Scot Lane, Pemberton on Saturday.

Mr Carroll, who had been crossing the road at the time, died in hospital.

Ann Jackson, who did not know her brother until he was 21 years old, described him as a "real saint".

Ms Jackson made contact with Mr Carroll after she was orphaned.

She said: "I did not meet Peter until I was 21 - since then we've always been very close.

"I will always remember him as a very kind and caring man, a real saint, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him."

Mr Carroll, 76, of Lancaster Road, Wigan, was struck by a Ford Focus.
