Images of poppies have been projected onto the walls of the 200ft (60.96m)tall civic centre in Oldham to mark Remembrance Week.

Views of the tower's tribute to those who were killed in conflict can be best seen from the Fitton Hill, Alexandra and Glodwick districts of the town.

Council leader Howard Sykes said the images were also a reminder of those recently killed in Afghanistan.

The poppy projection can be seen each evening until 11 November.

The projection shows a group of red poppies set against a white background, surmounted by the word Remember.

"It's a very, very good design and we're very pleased and touched by this support," said Alan Noble, chairman of the Oldham Liaison of Ex-Service Associations, which represents individual armed forces associations in the borough.

"This will mean a great deal to the lads and lasses, and to all the families. It's truly spectacular and very much appreciated."
